Key to Happiness?

The happiest of people don’t necessarily have the best of everything; they just make the most of everything that comes along their way.

A Carrot, an Egg, And a Cup of Coffee…

A young woman went to her mother and told her about her life and how things were so hard for her. She did not know how she was going to make it and wanted to give up; She was tired of fighting and struggling. It seemed as one problem was solved, a new one arose.
Her mother took her to the kitchen. She filled three pots with water and placed each on a high fire. Soon the pots came to boil. In the first she placed carrots, in the second she placed eggs, and in the last she placed ground coffee beans. She let them sit and boil; without saying a word.
In about twenty minutes she turned off the burners. She fished the carrots out and placed them in a bowl. She pulled the eggs out and placed them in a bowl. Then she ladled the coffee out and placed it in a bowl. Turning to her daughter, she asked, ‘ Tell me what you see.’
‘Carrots, eggs, and coffee,’ she replied.
Her mother brought her closer and asked her to feel the carrots. She did and noted that they were soft. The mother then asked the daughter to take an egg and break it. After pulling off the shell, she observed the hard-boiled egg.
Finally, the mother asked the daughter to sip the coffee. The daughter smiled as she tasted its rich aroma. The daughter then asked, ‘What does it mean, mother?’
Her mother explained that each of these objects had faced the same adversity: boiling water. Each reacted differently. The carrot went in strong, hard, and unrelenting. However, after being subjected to the boiling water, it softened and became weak. The egg had been fragile. Its thin outer shell had protected its liquid interior, but after sitting through the boiling water, its inside became hardened. The ground coffee beans were unique, however. After they were in the boiling water, they  had changed the water.
‘Which are you?’ she asked her daughter. ‘When adversity knocks on your door, how do you respond? Are you a carrot, an egg or a coffee bean?
Think of this:
Which am I?  Am I the carrot that seems strong, but with pain and adversity do I wilt and become soft and lose my strengthAm I the egg that starts with a malleable heart, but changes with the heat? Did I have a fluid spirit, but after a death, a breakup, a financial hardship or some other trial, have I become hardened and stiff? Does my shell look the same, but on the inside am I bitter and tough with a stiff spirit and hardened heart?
Or am I like the coffee bean? The bean actually changes the hot water, the very circumstance that brings the pain. When the water gets hot, it releases the fragrance and flavor. If you are like the bean, when things are at their worst, you get better and change the situation around you. When the hour is the darkest and trials are their greatest  do you elevate yourself to another level? How do you handle adversity? Are you a carrot, an egg or a coffee bean?

Then We May Hold Love

First
Clearly
a playful soul had entered the dark realm,
I was awakened despite all trepidation, all doubt,
Passing
by the sentry who guarded my lonely heart,
Further
he moved, quiet, challenging my faith, so bold,
Is it
possible to believe again, to reach out in the dark,
So to
live my faith in love, make it my goal, my haven,
But what
of hurt, how will the pain feel, will I survive,
Even one
thrust of agony, will this lonely heart still beat?
No
better to run, to pull back, disappear, hide from hurt,
For the
feeling in me to be true, what I feel for him to be real,
The
chance in itself is impossible, the reality so doubtful,
Why
should I suffer on the altar of love for a mere chance,
Not this
time, no, never, no, heaven will fall first,
Good-bye, mere chance darken not my door,
spit not my soul,
Too long
the dark of my heart, taking such small breaths of love,
There
remains no fire to test my steel, to open the caged heart,
Wipe
this shimmer of love from my mind, take the light away,
Tary no
longer to torture me, show me the love you will take,
Just go,
silent and veiled I will remain my fortress intact,
The
light would not fade, it never wavered, never dissipated,
Fear
grew to be beaten back, pain became the risk to take,
The
altar of new love, the merest chance became my haven,
The
caged heart caresses the shimmer of love, the shadow gone,
He comes
into my arms, fills me, laughs at my fear, for…
Then we
may hold love…

R.I.P…Reality?

Reality is the state of things as they actually exist, rather than as they may appear or may be thought to be. In its widest definition, reality includes everything that is and has being, whether or not it is observable or comprehensible. Okay then anyone want to do a ‘reality check’? Physicists the confounding cosmic Tinkerers, and philosophers, the confounding Tinkerers of words we thought we understood…

Art Walk

Hello my friends… Once again it’s the duty of the Hungry Artist to let you know that he is showing his works. There will be an exhibition of my paintings and drawings on display in the upstairs gallery in the Tench Building(corner of SE 2nd Ave and Main St). The works will include landscapes, nudes and my surrealism. Hope you can make it, even bring money to buy pieces, I have them nicely priced and would love for the art to go to good people. Any questions call me at 352 575-6723 .. or if you want a piece held for you.

Thank You,

Bill Perry

Sonnet From Shakespeare

When, in disgrace with fortune and men’s eyes,

I all alone beweep my outcast state

And trouble deaf heaven with my bootless cries

And look upon myself and curse my fate,

Wishing me like to one more rich in hope,

Featured like him, like him with friends possess’d,

Desiring this man’s art and that man’s scope,

With what I most enjoy contented least;

Yet in these thoughts myself almost despising,

Haply I think on thee, and then my state,

Like to the lark at break of day arising

From sullen earth, sings hymns at heaven’s gate;

For thy sweet love remember’d such wealth brings

That then I scorn to change my state with kings.

The Road Not Taken…

Two roads diverged in a yellow wood

And sorry I could not travel both

And be one traveler, long I stood

And looked down one as far as I could

To where it bent in the undergrowth

Then took the other, as just as fair

And having perhaps the better claim

Because it was grassy and wanted wear

Though as for that the passing there

Had worn them really about the same

And both that morning equally lay

In leaves no step had trodden black

Oh I kept the first for another day

Yet knowing how way leads on to way

I doubted if I should ever come back

I shall be telling this with a sigh

Somewhere ages and ages hence

Two roads diverged in a wood and I

I took the one less traveled by

And that has made all the difference
